Market value & assessment
1 Perforated coat-of-arms / imperial head issues (1860–1863):
They are common value tiers (10 Kr. and 15 Kr.) of the Austrian monarchy.
2 Special features:
The upper letter to Bozen is characterized by the registered stamps (Rekommandirt) and the well-preserved sender stamp from Trieste.
The lower stamp pair is canceled with a rarer red Rekommandirt stamp from Vienna, which is of interest to homeland collectors or cancellation collectors.
Sender: Sender’s stamp oval C. SCHMIDT / TRIEST (merchant / trading house C. Schmidt in Trieste).
Dispatch stamp: RECOMMANDIRT / TRIEST / 18 31/7 63 (Registered mail from Trieste dated 31 July 1863).
Arrival stamp: Gößtling / 2. AUG (back) as well as LOB stamp.
Signature / mark of inspection:
Handwritten top right on the back: MACCHIE (signature/ownership mark/inspection mark of the well-known Italian/Austrian philatelic expert/collector Macchien).
This is a common 10-Kreuzer standard issue. The item is postally cleanly canceled and bears an intact lacquer seal. The addressee (trades/business circle in Göstling) makes it interesting for homeland collectors from Lower Austria/Ybbstal.
Content: Horizontal pair of the 15 Kreuzer stamp on original paper cutout (letter fragment).
Cancellation / stamp: Red two-circle special stamp “RECO / WIEN 1863” (Rekommandirt / Registered). The red ink on this issue is philatelically sought after and significantly increases the collector value compared with standard black stamps.
Back: On the back there is another red impression ("WIEN...").
