Description from the seller

Eileen Gray
Designer and architect 1878-1976
Monograph edited by Philippe Garner

Eileen Gray (1878-1976) is today widely recognized as a designer of notable talent and personality. Initially she excelled in the refined lacquer work, creating screens, panels, furniture and objects of great technical virtuosity and poetic force. Eileen Gray later developed an interest in architecture, designing two houses, "E-1027" (completed in 1929) and "Tempe à Pailla" (completed in 1934) in the south of France, seminal examples of the spirit of the Modern Movement. This book analyzes and illustrates the entire range of her furniture, interiors and completed architectural projects.

Philippe Garner was the director of Sotheby’s in London. He has taken an interest in various aspects of the decorative arts, design, fashion and the history of photography. He has written numerous books, including a biography of Emile Gallé (1976), and has published articles, essays and research in various journals, including The Connoisseur, Harper’s & Queen, House & Garden.
