Description from the seller

Hourglass of beautiful dimensions dating from the late 19th century, a remarkable decorative art object forming a particularly expressive piece of furnishing characteristic of libraries, study cabinets and drawing rooms of the historicist era. It is composed of two large blown glass bulbs filled with fine sand, connected by three turned wooden uprights and three brass and bronze rods adorned with baluster elements.
The harmonious proportions as well as the noble combination of glass, wood and metal give the whole a remarkable architectural presence. The hourglasses of this scale not only measure time but also embody ideas of contemplation, knowledge and reflection on the passage of time.
Today, such pieces are particularly sought after as decorative objects for classical interiors, private libraries, collectors’ cabinets and historic houses.
