Beautiful and highly decorative set of two classic Bouillotte table lamps, executed in richly detailed gold-colored metal with a warm, naturally formed patina. The lamps come as a pair and each has three light sources, giving them a particularly atmospheric and stately appearance whether turned off or on.

The design clearly draws inspiration from the classic French Bouillotte and Louis XVI styles. This type of lighting derives its form from elegant French interior art, where symmetry, refined ornamentation and candle-like light points are central. Due to their generous size and rich detailing, these pieces are true showpieces in a classical, eclectic or hotel-chic interior.

Execution and detailing

Each lamp stands on a broad, round and finely profiled foot. The foot is adorned around with several decorative bands, including a fine pearl edge motif and relief decorations. From this sturdy base rises a richly ornamented central shaft.

The central column features various classical ornaments, including fluted sections, leaf and floral motifs, and bulb-shaped profiled elements. The relief work is beautifully deeply executed and is highlighted especially well by the existing patina. The higher parts have a warmer bronze-to-gold appearance, while the deeper-set ornaments have become darker. This contrast emphasizes the metal’s detailing.

Around the central shaft are three gracefully curved arms. They display a pronounced rocaille- and leaf-like form and end in round candle cups with a finely decorated edge.

On each arm sits a candle-shaped fitting sleeve. The sleeves are provided with decorative, downward-drifting drippy-wax details, giving the electrical light points the appearance of traditional candles. In total, each lamp has three light points, i.e., six light points for the complete set.

Adjustable Bouillotte shades

Above the light points, each lamp features a large, light-colored shade in the characteristic broad Bouillotte shape. The shades taper slightly and are finished along the top and bottom edges with a narrow decorative metal trim.

The central metal rod runs above the shade and ends in a particularly handsome, openwork decorative handle/crown. This gives the lamps an elegant classical finish also at the top.

The shade height can be adjusted via the central construct. This allows the relationship between shade and light points to be set to taste. This adjustable principle is a characteristic element of Bouillotte-style lighting.

When the lamps are lit, the three light points per lamp emit a pleasant warm light under and through the shades. The gold-colored metal parts especially take on a beautiful warm glow.

A truly matching pair

An important plus is that these are two matching lamps. The foot, arms, central ornamentation, candle holders, adjustable rods and coronations are executed in corresponding fashion.

As a pair, the lamps are ideal for a symmetrical arrangement, for example on either side of a fireplace, on two side tables, nightstands, consoles or at both ends of a large sideboard.

Due to the classical design, they combine well with antique furniture, but are also especially interesting as a pronounced decorative element within a modern or eclectic interior.
