Vase - Glass - Art Deco

Elegant cylindrical vase in pressed glass of golden yellow color, made in Central Europe, presumably Czechoslovakia, circa 1930. Its slender silhouette and its geometric relief decoration perfectly illustrate the Art Deco aesthetic of the interwar period, during which Central European glassworks extensively explored the decorative possibilities offered by molded and pressed glass.

Of cylindrical form, the vase features a body rhythmized by long vertical ribs, giving the piece an architectural look reminiscent of columns or pilasters. These are topped by a remarkable frieze composed of star and geometric motifs, arranged between wide relief arcades. The lower part reintroduces a radiating decoration of triangles and bundles that accentuates depth and plays of light. The slightly flared neck ends with a delicately beaded rim, while the thick, faceted base reinforces stability and the sculptural presence of the whole.

The vase is in excellent condition, with no evident chips or cracks. The reliefs, edges, and details of the decoration are particularly well preserved. Very slight surface irregularities may be observed, characteristic of the pressed glass manufacturing process and in no way detracting from the overall appearance of the piece.

This piece fits into the particularly rich tradition of Czechoslovak pressed glass of the 1930s, whose productions frequently combine geometry, architecture, and optical effects. Manufacturers such as Inwald or Rudolfova Huť then developed a substantial repertoire of vases with structured forms and molded decorations. Through its architectural vocabulary, geometric stars, and play between smooth surfaces, ribs, and facets, this vase constitutes a fine example of Central European decorative glass production of the Art Deco period.
