I offer Olympus CAMEDIA C-960 Zoom, one of the characteristic early digital cameras from the initial period of consumer digital photography development. The model was introduced to the market around 2000 and was manufactured in Japan by Olympus Optical Co., Ltd., as confirmed by the original “Made in Japan” marking on the bottom of the body. The factory label with the serial number is preserved, partially damaged and not fully legible – the visible sequence can be read as 107?05987.

The camera has been checked and powers on. The LCD display works, the camera responds to controls, and the lens extends. In one of the photos, the operating screen with the message “NO CARD” is visible, because the camera being shown and sold is without a memory card. The sale is also without batteries.

Olympus C-960 Zoom is equipped with a CCD sensor of about 1.3 megapixels, allowing photos up to 1280 × 960 pixels in the maximum resolution. This is technology characteristic of the first generation of popular digital cameras, currently of interest to collectors and enthusiasts of early digital photography.

One of the most important elements of the model is the original Olympus AF Zoom 5.4–16.2 mm f/2.8–4.4, providing a 3× optical zoom. The focal length range roughly corresponds to 35–105 mm in a 35 mm equivalent format, giving the camera a range from modest wide-angle to short telephoto. A 2× digital zoom is also available. The camera features autofocus, macro mode, automatic exposure control, exposure compensation, and a built-in flash.

On the back there is a color 1.8-inch TFT LCD display and an optical viewfinder. Photos are stored on SmartMedia 3.3 V cards, typical for this generation of cameras. The body also has outputs that allow, among other things, Video Out PAL signal transmission and an external DC 6 V power socket. The camera can be powered by AA batteries/rechargeables (LR6); the appropriate markings are also inside the battery compartment.

Initial dimensions of the body are approximately 127 × 66.5 × 53 mm, and the mass is about 270 g without batteries and memory card. The design stands out with the late 1990s/early 2000s styling: a silver body, black rear, a large sliding lens cover, and gold details around the optics.

The camera is in used condition, as shown in the photos. Signs of wear, small scratches, scuffs, and losses/damage to black exterior elements, especially near the viewfinder and edges of the body, are visible. All of these elements are shown in the photographs and should be considered an integral part of the item’s condition description. A strap visible in the photos is included.

Today, the Olympus C-960 Zoom is an interesting example of an early Japanese digital camera – it combines a 1.3 MP CCD sensor, a physical 3× optical zoom, SmartMedia card recording, and styling characteristic of the early years of the digital revolution. It may appeal to both an Olympus camera collector and people collecting electronics and design from the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries.
