Description from the seller
CHATY VALLAURIS
Important convex mirror with radiating decor « Soleil »
France, circa 1955-1965
Important convex mirror with a radiating decoration, made by the Chaty Vallauris workshops, an emblematic figure of French decorative arts in the post-war era.
The model features a central convex mirror, called the “eye of the witch,” surrounded by an elegant circular gold mount extended by a spectacular crown of long uniform rays spread in a star around the entire circumference. The balance of the composition, the regularity of the rays, and the grandeur of its size give the piece an exceptional decorative presence.
Typical of the most sought-after productions by Chaty Vallauris, this model perfectly illustrates the solar aesthetic that marked the most refined interiors of the 1950s and 1960s. The central convex mirror provides a panoramic perspective of the space and amplifies the light, reinforcing the sculptural effect of the composition.
Due to its large dimensions, the quality of its craftsmanship, and its particularly harmonious design, this example ranks among the most decorative and most sought-after models of the manufacturer.
Stamped “CHATY VALLAURIS A.M.” on the reverse.
Dimensions: diameter 82-85 cm approx
Materials: gilded metal and convex mirror.
Era: circa 1955-1965.
Origin: Vallauris, Alpes-Maritimes, France.
This exemplar presents a beautiful patina original to its time of manufacture and retains its original back panel bearing the factory stamp.
Condition: Very good state of preservation.
The images are part of the description. Delivery to a pick-up point.
