Grundig - RF 640 Transistor radio

This beautiful Grundig RF 640 is offered—a classic vintage tabletop radio with a particularly handsome wood look and the distinctive design Grundig is known for.

This specimen is in excellent condition and is also fully functional. The radio has been tested and performs very well. Reception, tuning and operation work as they should. A well-preserved unit that is not only interesting for collectors but can also be actually used.

Beautiful original appearance

The RF 640 features an stylish cabinet with warm wood grain, rounded corners and a large decorative speaker grille. The combination of the wood with the dark front, the analogue tuning scale and the black control elements gives the radio its characteristic vintage look.

The cabinet, given its age, is in very good condition. Also the front, the scale, knob controls, pushbuttons and the speaker grille present themselves particularly well. The original Grundig logos and emblems are still present.

The rear panel is neatly preserved as well, equipped with the original back panel with ventilation openings, connections, technical inscriptions and the model designation Grundig RF 640. The rear also states that the unit was manufactured by Grundig in Portugal.

Fully working

An important plus of this example is that the radio functions fully. It has been tested and performs excellently.

The RF 640 offers several reception ranges:

FM (VHF), MW (medium wave), LW (long wave) and SW (short wave).

The different bands are selectable via the front pushbuttons. The large dial on the right is used for tuning. At the bottom of the front are the remaining dials and control buttons.

The fine analogue scale shows, in addition to the frequencies, various historic European station names and places. This gives the radio much of its authentic charm.

Nice collector’s item

The Grundig RF 640 is an attractive example of European radio and audio design from the late 1970s. Especially the combination of the large wooden cabinet, the geometric speaker grille and the wide analogue scale makes this a striking device.

Due to its very good cosmetic and technical condition, this specimen is particularly suitable for a Grundig collection, a collection of historical radio equipment, or as a functional vintage interior piece.

The unit has a beautiful authentic appearance and has not been excessively restored or modernized. Any minor signs of use or aging are in keeping with its age and are well visible in the extensive photo series.
