Three wooden objects from Ivory Coast linked to the Dan culture (Dan Maou), with provenance from an auction house.
Description from the seller
These three items were purchased at the auction house Drouot / Boisseau Pommez (see document). They assessed it as authentic, from the period 1960-1990.
The first item is a cylindrical wooden vessel with a carved lid that hangs by a braided fiber cord. This vessel originates from Tanzania, more precisely from the Doe people. It was used to store fine substances such as medicinal powders, ritual preparations, or snuff. The incised geometric decoration in a zigzag motif belongs to a formal vocabulary shared by the Doe, Zaramo, and Kwer groups.
Height = 16 cm
Diameter = 3 cm
The 2nd object is a bird-beak "masque passeport" that conferred status to the wearer. There is a damage on the rear that is not visible from the front. And that also proves its authenticity because you can better see the patina this way.
Height = 15 cm
The 3rd object is a "Wakemia" rice spoon that depicts a woman above the spoon. This also conferred status when a woman had such a spoon. The larger and more beautifully carved, the more status.
Height = 42 cm
