Description from the seller
Phenakite / Phenacite – 2 natural rough crystals – Jos, Nigeria – 3.90 ct
Offered is a lot of two natural Phenakite rough crystals from Nigeria with a total weight of 3.90 carats.
I personally purchased the crystals from a gemstone dealer in Abuja, Nigeria. According to the dealer, the pieces come from a mine in the Jos region (Jos Plateau), a well-known source of Phenakite in Nigeria.
Description
The two crystals are colorless to very faint warm tinted and exhibit, for the material, a remarkable transparency as well as a pronounced glassy luster.
Of particular interest is the complex natural crystal structure. Under macro observation, numerous stepped, geometric growth and surface structures become visible. Depending on the viewing angle, strong reflections and different optical structures appear inside the crystals.
The pieces show natural irregularities, inclusions, and isolated orange to brown mineral adherences or inclusions. These are clearly visible in the high-resolution macro shots and were not removed.
