Ellen von Unwerth - Omahyra & Boyd - 2005

This book tells the story of Omahyra and her love for Boyd, two iconic models of the 2000s, one a muse of Jean-Paul Gaultier, the other most often photographed by David Armstrong in particular. Omahyra is excessive, vibrant, a vine stretched to the tattooed body, free and joyful. A real tomboy. Boyd is as blond as an angel, shy with tender lips, quite feminine. Ellen Von Unwerth meets Omahyra, a young New York model born in the rough Queens neighborhood, at a casting. "The androgynous elegance half-punk, half-hip-hop of this young girl of Dominican origin—which soon after became the Jean Paul Gaultier muse—stood out from other blond and naïve young girls." With her strong character, her jewelry, her piercings and tattoos, she captivates Ellen Von Unwerth's lens, who decides to follow her step by step for the duration of a week of shows in New York. "Seeing her in action gives the opportunity to discover how unique she is. A wild personality, fed by an intense thirst for life." The electric bomb Omahyra arrives at the Marquee club in a bikini, literally creating a jealous uproar "with hair-pulling, scratches and flying Manolo Blahnik heels." Then Ellen follows her from one show to another, making backstage entrances, kissing friends on the fly, an electric tornado delighting in champagne and totally playing along with the cameras and journalists. A real pro. "My last photo session was for Omahyra and Boyd, at Lysa's. After about two hours of shooting and play, I sensed it was time to leave them alone." From these two hours in total intimacy with the couple, Ellen Von Unwerth captured striking portraits, scenes of tender and playful erotic games, in the bedroom or the kitchen and exuberant shower scenes.
