Handwoven flatweave (kilim) rug in the Afghan war rug tradition, a genre that emerged following the 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, in which weavers incorporated contemporary military imagery into traditional textile designs. This example features a bordered field of repeating stylized animal motifs surrounding a central pictorial scene depicting a river, mountains, architecture, and figures, with helicopter, tank, and firearm motifs integrated into the composition.
