The statuette is in a very similar posture; it is mentioned that the chief claps his hands as a sign of welcome, not only to respond to the greetings addressed to him, but also to indicate that he takes note of something important that has just been reported to him.

It is also believed that the so-called “chief” statuettes are generic representations of founding ancestors.

A recurring detail characterizes Chokwe sculptures and links them to the world of political power: the head is adorned with the mutwe wa kayanda hairstyle, specific to Chokwe sovereigns.
