Description from the seller
PORTUGAL. Lisbon. 2.5 Escudos. 1951.
- Value: 2.5 Escudos.
- Year: 1951.
- Inscriptions: REPÚBLICA PORTUGUESA surrounding a sailing caravel navigating and the date at the bottom; on the reverse, the Portuguese national coat of arms over the armillary sphere with the denomination 2$50.
- Grade: MS64 (NGC).
Circulating coin of the Portuguese Republic issued during the Estado Novo period, belonging to the well-known maritime-themed commemorative series. The obverse features a caravel with sails unfurled advancing over the sea, a direct symbol of Portugal's naval and exploratory tradition, with a dynamic design and very well balanced. The reverse shows the national shield superimposed on the armillary sphere, a historical element deeply tied to Portuguese identity, with excellent relief definition and very clean fields. The specimen stands out for its exceptional state of preservation, with intense original luster, an appealing silvery tone and fully sharp details, qualities that thoroughly justify its high MS64 rating and place it among the best-preserved specimens of this issue.
Disclaimer: For orders shipped outside the European Union, I want to be absolutely clear that I do ship from Spain, which means that if the package is sent to any country outside the European Union, and/or inside the EU that has a special tax agreement (example: Canary Islands), it might be stopped in your local customs and they might ask you to pay taxes. This is a customs legal procedure and it is completely out of our control. Thanks for your understanding.
