Digoin & Sarreguemines – Complete set of 12 talking plates “The 12 Months of the Year in the Countryside” – 20.5 cm
Wonderful complete set of 12 antique fine white earthenware talking plates from Digoin & Sarreguemines, illustrating the 12 months of the year, from January to December.
Each plate features in the center a black-and-white scene evoking rural life, countryside activities, and childlike scenes associated with the represented month. The illustrations give the set a particularly picturesque charm and reflect the popular imagery of the period.
The plates are notable for their raised wing-shaped rim with a wicker pattern, reminiscent of woven osier, outlined by an elegant blue border around the edge.
The presence of the 12 months gathered in a complete series is particularly interesting for collectors of talking plates and of antique French earthenware.
