Description from the seller
GUINEA. 5 Guinean Francs. 1962.
- Value: 5 Guinean Francs.
- Year: 1962.
- Inscriptions: Obverse: RÉPUBLIQUE DE GUINÉE · 1962 · SEKOU TOURÉ. Reverse: TRAVAIL · JUSTICE · SOLIDARITÉ · 5 FRANCS GUINÉENS · LE PREMIER MARS 1960.
- Grade: MS64 (NGC).
Coin of 5 Guinean Francs with the bust of President Ahmed Sékou Touré to the right on the obverse, accompanied by the name of the Republic of Guinea and the issue date. The reverse presents the face value in the center, framed by palm branches and accompanied by the national motto “Travail · Justice · Solidarité,” as well as the inscription “Le Premier Mars 1960,” commemorating the establishment of the Guinean national currency. The specimen retains very well-defined reliefs, clean fields, and an attractive original satin shine, with tiny contact marks compatible with its high grade MS64. Issued a few years after Guinea’s independence in 1958, this coin reflects the assertion of national sovereignty under the leadership of Ahmed Sékou Touré and symbolizes the creation of an independent monetary system separate from the French colonial franc.
