Britannia Airways Limited was a British airline with its home base in the United Kingdom. It was established in 1961 as Euravia (London) Limited and became the world’s largest holiday airline. Britannia’s main bases were London, Gatwick, London Stansted, London Luton, Cardiff, Bristol, East Midlands, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds, Bradford, Liverpool and Glasgow. The headquarters were located in Britannia House in Luton. [1]

Britannia was originally a charter airline for Universal Sky Tours and later for Thomson Holidays, where it became the in-house airline with a fleet of Boeing jet aircraft.

In 2000 Thomson Travel Group, and thus Britannia Airways, were acquired by the German TUI Group. As part of a broader reorganization of TUI’s British activities, Britannia was renamed Thomsonfly in September 2004.
