The Kwele Pipibudzé (or Pibibuze) mask is a ritual artwork originating from the Kwele people, who live in the forests of northern the Republic of the Congo and Gabon. This anthropomorphic mask, whose name literally means 'man' or 'boy', symbolizes the light and clairvoyance needed to ward off the forces of sorcery.


Le masque Kwele Pipibudzé (ou Pibibuze) est une œuvre d'art rituelle originaire du peuple Kwele, qui vit dans les forêts du nord de la République du Congo et du Gabon. Ce masque anthropomorphe, dont le nom signifie littéralement « homme » ou « garçon », symbolise la lumière et la clairvoyance nécessaires pour repousser les forces de la sorcellerie.
