Umbrella stand/rack - Metal - Space age paraplubak

A functional object that can also be seen as a work of art. This striking 1970s umbrella stand is made of red-painted metal and is characterized by its playful spiral shape. The flowing design and the bold color align perfectly with the Space Age and Pop Art aesthetics that were popular in the 1960s and 1970s. During this period designers experimented with organic lines, futuristic forms and striking colors, giving everyday items a sculptural character.

The open spiral construction provides space for multiple umbrellas and walking sticks, while the integrated catch basin at the bottom neatly collects rainwater. Thanks to the airy design, wet umbrellas can also dry well. This makes the umbrella stand not only practical but also a particularly decorative object in a hall, entrance, or office.

Due to its minimalist form and graphic appearance, this umbrella stand fits effortlessly into Space Age, Mid-Century Modern, Memphis, or Postmodern interiors. Similar sculptural metal umbrella stands from the 1970s are regularly attributed to Italian and Austrian designers from the Space Age period, in which functional objects increasingly took on an artistic form.

The umbrella stand is in good vintage condition with normal signs of use appropriate for its age. There are some paint chips and small spots visible, mainly along the lower edge and on a few parts of the spiral where overpaint has occurred (see detail photos).
