AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Antique Ernemann Heag VI (ca. 1910) 'Zwei-Verschluß' with red bellows, Koilos shutter, Lacour-Berthiot lens – Including rare Ernemann 12-plate interchangeable magazine

Description:
Offered is a stunning, very complete and mechanically fascinating centerpiece for the discerning collector of antique photography: an Ernemann Heag VI 'Zwei-Verschlußkamera' (double shutter camera) from the early years of the 20th century. This particular lot stands out not only for the high-quality optics but also for the presence of a highly sought-after and original Ernemann accessory. The camera features the iconic, deep red leather bellows that beautifully contrast with the warm mahogany wood and the chrome/brass details of the bed mechanism.

Unique technical features & extras:
• Zwei-Verschluß System: Luxury version with two independent shutters: the central Koilos shutter at the front and a built-in slit shutter (focal plane) in the rear housing.
• Koilos shutter: An early, sought-after aluminum shutter with the characteristic mechanical engravings on the front.
• Lacour-Berthiot Lens: Equipped with high-quality French optics from the renowned maker Berthiot, a clear upgrade over the lenses typically mounted at the time.
• Including Ernemann Wisselmagazin: This lot is complete with the original, matching Ernemann plate magazine with a capacity for 12 film plates/glass plates. A fantastic and scarce accessory that is rarely offered together with the camera! [1]

Condition of the object:
• Cosmetic: In very nice vintage condition. The woodwork is sound, the black leather on the housing shows only light, age-related marks. The red bellows are visually in excellent condition and have maintained their deep color well (see photos).
• Optical & Mechanical front: The bed slides smoothly along the guide rails. The lens is optically fine. No scratches, fungus, or haze.
• Slit shutter status (Important note): The internal focal plane shutter in the rear housing currently does not function. The mechanism and the shutter curtain appear to be fully present in the housing, but as is very common with this specific model and its age, the internal ribbons have worn over time. A recognizable and honest aging feature that does not detract from the historical value for a collector or display piece.

An absolute eyecatcher in any display cabinet and a historically important, very complete ensemble from the history of early large-format photography.

• Lens: Lacour-Berthiot
