Description from the seller

# French Gilt Bronze and Enamel Decorative Plate with Galant Scenes, Signed Fragonard

Magnificent French decorative plate made of **gilt bronze and painted enamel plaques**, dating from the early 20th century, featuring an elaborate openwork design in the Rococo revival style.

The piece features a central circular plaque surrounded by an exceptionally ornate gilt-bronze frame, richly decorated with **rocaille motifs, scrolling foliage, floral elements and intricate openwork ornamentation**, crowned by a decorative motif at the top.

The central plaque depicts a **galant scene inspired by the Rococo tradition**, accompanied by four smaller medallions featuring scenes of a similar subject. The compositions are related to the artistic world of **Jean-Honoré Fragonard** and the French galant imagery of the 18th century.

The central plaque bears the inscription/signature **“Fragonard”**, integrated into the painted decoration.

The combination of the galant scenes, Rococo-inspired ornamentation and highly elaborate gilt-bronze work gives this piece a distinctly French historicist character, typical of the decorative arts of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
