Description from the seller

Saurpod Limb Bone Fragment – Multidirectional Trabecular Structure – Consolidated with Paraloid B-72 – 2.68 kg

Ref: S-064

We present a magnificent fossil piece of great biomechanical and histological interest. It is a solid bone fragment belonging to the limb of a gigantic Sauropod dinosaur, possibly originating from the proximal region of the femur.

The most striking paleontological feature of this specimen is the superb preservation of its internal spongy bone tissue. The trabeculae oriented in different directions are clearly visible, a fascinating example of the biological architecture designed by nature to distribute and withstand the enormous mechanical loads and biomechanical stresses of these Mesozoic giants. The piece shows a polished face to better appreciate the internal structure. It belongs to the metaphyseal/epiphyseal region characteristic of the long bones of large vertebrates.

To ensure its long-term preservation and structural stability, the fossil has been professionally treated and consolidated with Paraloid B-72, an acrylic resin widely used in conservation and restoration of paleontological heritage. This treatment helps stabilize the fossil material and protect it against deterioration processes, respecting its natural texture and appearance. It is also a reversible treatment using the appropriate solvents, in line with standard conservation-restoration principles.

Additionally, one of its faces has been carefully polished to enhance its features and facilitate display, while the rest of the piece retains its original structure and matrix, as presented after extraction and preparation.

The lot includes a custom-made heavy iron stand (2.1 kg) designed for vertical exhibition, engraved with the piece’s data, providing a sober, elegant gallery-level aesthetic.

Details of the specimen:

Type: Limb bone fragment (proximal femur area likely).

Taxonomy: Dinosauria - Sauropoda.

Age: Late Cretaceous (approximately 95 million years).

Origin: North Africa.

Conservation and Treatment: Excellent preservation of the internal trabecular bone microstructure. Treated and consolidated with Paraloid B-72 (neutral, museum-grade, reversible conservation resin) to ensure structural stability without altering its natural appearance.

Accessories: Includes a custom iron stand (2.1 kg) + Original JoyasFosiles Certification/Certificate of Authenticity.

Dimensions and Weight:

Fossil measurements: 20 x 15 cm.

Fossil weight: 2,585 g (2.58 kg).

Iron stand weight: 2,100 g (2.1 kg).

Total ensemble weight: approximately 4.68 kg.
