The TEAC V-9 is a vintage stereo cassette recorder introduced to the market in Japan in 1981, beloved by enthusiasts for its distinctive look and nicknamed "The Chameleon" because of its iconic colored LED VU meter indicators. In other auctions you will find the other components of the series (the turntable P9 and the combination amp A9 + Tuner T9).
This model represents a very important historical piece for the brand, as it was used as a test bench for TEAC's innovative three-motor transport system. Despite the limitations of the two-head playback/recording circuit, audiophiles confirm that the reproduced sound is surprisingly clean, warm, and pleasing.
The deck for sale has a front panel in perfect cosmetic condition and all the LEDs are functioning.
The mechanics operate correctly, the belts have been replaced in anticipation of the sale, and a thorough cleaning has been performed.
The chassis shows slight discoloration on the top surface as shown in the photos, which are an integral part of the description and pertain to the item for sale.

Although it is a two-head unit (one for erase, one combined for recording/playback), the true innovation of the TEAC V-9 lies entirely in its internal mechanics.
Three-motor system: It was the first TEAC deck to incorporate a dedicated capstan motor, a second motor for the reels, and a third motor specifically to move the head block up and down. This architecture laid the groundwork for all future high-end TEAC and Tascam recorders.
Tape selector: Supports 3 equalization positions (Normal, CrO2, and Metal).
Noise reduction: Dolby B system.
Wow and flutter: 0.06% wrms.
Signal-to-noise ratio: 45 dB (CrO2) and 54 dB (LN) without Dolby.
Frequency response: Optimized thanks to a minimal internal circuit (reduced to a single operational amplifier) and a shielded power transformer to avoid the usual ground hum.
