AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Rare antique Jugendstil small decorative bowl by O. Prachthauser Berlin with 4 brass jugs and vases – Germany / Europe – ca. 1890–1950
Object description

A remarkable 5-piece collection of decorative brass, consisting of a signed German Jugendstil small dish/bowl by O. Prachthauser, Berlin, two graceful pouring decanters, and two classic double-handled urn vases.

The main and oldest object in the lot is the richly decorated Jugendstil vide-poche / bonbon dish by O. Prachthauser. The remaining four objects form a decorative matching ensemble, but are explicitly not attributed to the same manufacturer or production period.

Main object – O. Prachthauser Jugendstil dish

Beautiful antique brass dish with a round recessed bowl and a richly worked decorative edge. In the center is a stylized geometric floral motif, surrounded by multiple relief bands.

On both sides are particularly decorative openwork handles, executed with graceful scrolls and floral ornamentation. The combination of geometric and botanical motifs is characteristic of the transition between historicizing design and German Jugendstil.

The underside is marked with:

O. PRACHTHAUSER
Berlin / Berlin
star-shaped factory mark
model/catalog number 13474
GESCHÜTZT

The designation Geschützt indicates that the design was legally protected/registered at the time.

The dish is attributed to Otto Prachthauser, Berlin, and is estimated to date from circa 1890–1910, the Jugendstil / Art Nouveau period.

Two brass pouring decanters

The lot also contains two decorative brass pouring decanters of different sizes, made as a matching large and small pair.

Both have a classic profiled form with a high curved spout, elegantly shaped handle, and a round foot. The heavy construction and thick walls give the decanters a solid appearance.

Production marks are visible on the inside and bottom, consistent with a cast and then finished construction.

These decanters are likely of European origin and roughly dated to the first half of the 20th century, ca. 1920–1950.

Two double-handled urn vases

Completed the ensemble are two decorative double-handled brass urn vases / amphora vases.

The vases have a classic symmetrical silhouette with flaring neck, globular body, tall foot, and two gracefully curved handles. The surfaces are richly adorned with a hammered and engraved/pressed decoration featuring repeating motifs.

The construction is traditionally assembled, with the various parts connected via the interior and base.

The urn vases are also probably of European origin and are estimated to date from circa 1920–1950.

Due to differences in form, finish, and period, this is not a five-piece set originally manufactured as such, but a carefully curated decorative lot of five brass objects.
