Canon FTb QL (black) with Canon FD 50mm f/1.8 lens

The Canon FTb QL is a robust, all-mechanical 35mm SLR introduced by Canon in 1971 within its FD-mount system. It features TTL match-needle metering with a central partial-metering area (approx. 12% of the frame), a dependable cloth focal-plane shutter (1–1/1000 s plus B), and Canon's Quick Loading (QL) mechanism for fast, reliable film loading. It is offered here in the less common black finish, together with the standard Canon FD 50mm f/1.8 lens. The body also accepts earlier FL-mount lenses, making it a versatile entry into classic Canon manual-focus photography.

Appearance
Only minor scuffs, with a very small dent to the top of the pentaprism (viewfinder) housing. The camera has been well stored and is clean overall. Please refer to the photos, which form part of the description.

Light seals
The light seals have been replaced, so the camera is ready to load film without the risk of light leaks that commonly affects cameras of this age.

Viewfinder
No fungus or haze, and the prism is in good condition. There is a little fine dust visible in the viewfinder, which is common in cameras of this age; it sits on the focusing screen and does not appear in your photographs. Visibility is very good and the in-finder metering display reads clearly.

Optical condition (Canon FD 50mm f/1.8)
Clear overall, with only very faint haze. In my judgement this does not affect normal shooting. The aperture blades operate well.

Functional condition
All basic operations have been checked: shutter at all speeds, light meter, film advance and rewind, self-timer, and lens aperture coupling. The shutter speeds have been measured on a tester and adjusted where necessary. The camera is supplied ready to use with confidence.
(Note: the light meter uses a 1.35 V PX625 mercury cell, which is no longer available. A same-size 1.5 V alkaline replacement (PX625A / V625U) can be used — this may cause a slight over-reading of about ½ stop — or a 1.35 V zinc-air cell for more accurate metering. These replacement cells (e.g. Varta V625U / PX625A) are commonly available, including in Europe.)
