Icon “Christ Pantokrator” (Christ as World Teacher)

• Technique/Material: Tempera on a wooden panel, with an elaborately decorated, metallish-looking ornamental frame around the halo and the edge (typical of Russian icon painting – often executed as a painted imitation of a silver oklad/Riza)
• Depiction: Christ with a blessing gesture, opened Gospel book with Church Slavonic text (“Придите ко мне…” – “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden…”, Mt 11:28) – a classic Christ Pantokrator motif
• Condition: Loss of color primarily in the robe, craquelure, framed under glass

backside: On the reverse it is handwritten in Bulgarian: „Исус Христос – Световния учител / Rусаия – 17 столетие – Оргинал” ("Jesus Christ – the World Teacher / Russia – 17th century – Original").
