Episcopal ciborium in vermeil with amethyst cabochons – Edmond Lesage, Paris, late 19th century
Important episcopal ciborium in vermeil silver richly adorned with amethyst cabochons mounted in bezels, placed on the lid, the knop, and the pedestal. The interior cup is entirely gilded in accordance with liturgical usage. The domed lid is topped by a trilobed Latin cross.
The knop and the foot reproduce a rhythmical decoration of amethysts in polylobed surrounds, evoking the episcopal symbolism of liturgical violet.
Under the foot there is an engraved inscription mentioning “Monseigneur de Grammont,” indicating an episcopal destination.

Important episcopal ciborium in vermeil silver richly adorned with amethyst cabochons mounted in bezels, placed on the lid, the knop, and the pedestal. The interior cup is entirely gilded in accordance with liturgical usage. The domed lid is topped by a trilobed Latin cross.
