Hema Four-Stroke Engine Demonstration Model with light, a 1960s cast‑iron, fully mechanical petrol‑engine cutaway demonstrator operated by hand crank, with dimensions 35 × 20 × 22.5 cm, weight about 2.45 kg, authentic original Portuguese instructional plate, in very good condition with minimal signs of wear and age, and the electrical ignition system present but the small 3V E10 bulb is missing.
Description from the seller
Vintage Four-Stroke Engine Demonstration Model with light and movement– 1960s Mechanical Cutaway
A striking vintage didactic four-stroke internal combustion engine model, designed to demonstrate the working principles of a petrol engine. The fully sectioned construction exposes the piston, crankshaft, valves, rocker arms, camshaft and carburetor.
Turning the large red flywheel operates the complete mechanism, making this an exceptionally attractive piece of vintage technical and industrial design. The original Portuguese instruction plate, “Modelo de Motor a 4 Tempos”, remains mounted on the wooden base.
The model is beautifully finished in contrasting red, white, black, green and blue, with excellent mechanical detailing.
The Cam Synchronization (The Magic Moment)
Inside that round housing where the red wire goes, there is a small metal gear or cam connected to the engine's central crankshaft. This cam features a tiny raised bump (a lobe). As you turn the hand crank, the engine transitions from the Compression stroke (piston moving to the very top) to the Power stroke:The raised bump on the internal cam strikes the metal leaf switch.
This forces the two mechanical contacts to touch, instantly closing the electrical circuit.
Electricity travels up the wire, causing the bulb to flash brightly for a split second.
Condition: Good vintage condition with some authentic age-related wear and paint loss. The mechanism turns smoothly and operates correctly. The original electrical ignition system is fully present, but the small 3V E10 bulb is not there. The wooden base shows normal signs of age and use. Please study the photo's carefully because they are an integral part of the description.
