Commemorative 5 Leva coin minted in 1974 by the People's Republic of Bulgaria in tribute to Aleksandar Stamboliyski, a prominent Bulgarian politician and statesman who served as prime minister between 1919 and 1923. The obverse features a left-profile portrait of Stamboliyski, carved with great depth and detail in a realistic socialist-era style characteristic of 20th-century medallic art, accompanied by his name and the birth and death dates. The reverse shows the state coat of arms of the People's Republic of Bulgaria, consisting of the heraldic lion within a crown of ears of corn crowned by a star, together with the denomination of 5 Leva and the issue date. The surfaces exhibit an exceptional proof finish, with mirror fields of intense contrast against the satinized reliefs, maintaining an outstanding visual quality.
