Description from the seller
French writing desk in flame-figured walnut – circa 1830
Superb period writing desk from the Charles X era, made circa 1830, in solid walnut with veneer, presenting a remarkable flame-figured grain on the lid and the front panels.
The piece opens with a drop-front lid revealing an original compartmented interior, consisting of several side pigeonholes and a wide central space, intended for storing writing accessories (feathers, inkwell, seals, papers).
The front is adorned with its original brass lock escutcheon, lozenge-shaped, characteristic of the period. The hardware is all antique, (key absent).
The whole rests on a sober and elegant construction, typical of the Charles X style, highlighting the quality of the wood and the purity of the lines.
Dimensions
Length: 38 cm
Depth: 25 cm
Height: 12 cm
Etat
Good general condition. Beautiful old patina. Mild signs of time without structural alteration. Personally, the fabric seems to have been either replaced or reattached — trace of white glue visible at the junction and light splits visible in the photos
Époque
France, Charles X, circa 1825–1835.
Decorative and functional object, ideal for a desk, a library, or a 19th-century furniture collection
