Rare amber glass Bohemian jewelry casket, mounted in patinated metal with four scroll feet and two side handles, dating to the late 19th century, attributed to Bohême, Czech origin, about 9 × 9 × 9.5 cm with small signs of aging.
Description from the seller
Rare amber Bohemian glass jewelry casket with polychrome enameled decoration, late 19th century.
Very beautiful old casket in thick amber glass, circular in shape, resting on an elegant metal mount with four scroll-footed legs and equipped with two small side handles.
The piece is especially distinguished by the remarkable miniature architectural scene adorning the center of the lid. Entirely executed with great finesse, it depicts a medieval riverside ensemble: a fortified tower, a half-timbered house, a boat, and several figures. The numerous details of the architecture, clothing, vegetation, and landscape testify to particularly meticulous work.
Around the miniature, a rich raised enamel decoration develops, consisting of delicate white fronds punctuated by small polychrome beads. This decoration continues around the perimeter of the casket and contrasts superbly with the deep amber color of the glass.
The interior also features a painted decoration and preserves an old hand-painted workshop mark or number, whose meaning has not been identified. It is intentionally shown up close among the photographs.
The casket is mounted in an old patinated metal frame, with hinge, clasp, two side rings, and an ornate base.
This type of decorative glassware fits within the great tradition of Bohemian workshops of the second half of the 19th century, notably those of the Karlsbad region, renowned for their colored glasses enriched with polychrome enamels, gold, and extremely refined painted decorations.
No definitive attribution to any specific manufacturer is offered in the absence of a formally identifiable signature.
A particularly decorative and unusual piece, whose interest lies in the combination of amber glass, raised enamel decoration, the architectural miniature, and its original metal mount.
Dimensions: approximately 9 × 9 cm
Height: approximately 9.5 cm
Old piece showing the normal signs of aging. The numerous close-up photographs are an integral part of the description and allow precise appraisal of its condition, decoration, and mark.
Exceptionally careful packaging given the fragility and age of the object.
