Desk in Louis XVI style, reinterpreted in the first half of the 20th century, made of wood, originating from France, with dimensions 60 cm high, 46 cm wide and 30 cm deep, in good condition with signs of age.
Description from the seller
It is a Louis XVI-style table, reinterpreted in the first half of the 20th century, which preserves the neoclassical elegance of the original style but adapted to more everyday use, more domestic, more in line with the period’s sensibility. The wood, warm and slightly darkened with time, shows that fine, well-proportioned craftsmanship that characterizes Louis XVI: straight lines, balance, avoidance of excess, and a sense of symmetry that organizes the piece without making it rigid. The small front drawer, with its metal pull, adds functionality without breaking the harmony of the whole.
The leather top, aged with dignity, introduces the academic note typical of classical desks. Its soft texture, patina, and contrast with the wood create an intimate, almost ceremonial workspace where writing or reading takes on an air of calm. That leather, typical of French desks and their later reinterpretations, adds visual depth and a touch of distinction.
The base, with its central column opening into three curved legs, provides a more dynamic, almost sculptural gesture. It nods to early-20th-century reinterpretations of the style, where the classical essence was retained but some formal freedom was allowed. The legs end in small claw feet, a detail inherited from historic furniture that adds character and presence.
Taken together, it is a piece that blends French neoclassicism, 20th-century craftsmanship, noble materials, and an intimate scale that makes it a perfect desk for a chic corner.
Certified shipping and good packaging.
