Description from the seller
Immaculate Conception - polychrome plaster - Belgium or France - late 19th - early 20th century.
Professionally shipped – more than 950 five-star reviews worldwide.
Impressive sculpture depicting Mary with arms crossed over her chest, standing on a crescent moon and a serpent. This iconography refers to the Immaculate Conception, portraying Mary as free from original sin and triumphing over evil. The blue mantle with gilded stars and the finely worked polychromy give the statue a distinctive appearance. The statue was presumably intended for use in a chapel, monastery or prayer room.
Inside there is a scratched inscription in the plaster, including the date 1856. This inscription was made during the production of the statue and forms an interesting historical detail.
Height approx. 81 cm; in good condition with normal signs of aging and use, limited wear to the polychromy and some small damage to the edge of the pedestal. Please examine the photos carefully, they are part of the description.
Shipped with track & trace.
