Holy deacon, possibly Saint Lawrence – polychromed carved wood – presumably Spain – 18th century

Old wooden sculpture of a young saint, dressed as a deacon in a long tunic with over it a dalmatic. The figure stands upright on a profiled pedestal. The right hand is extended forward and originally held an attribute. The depiction may possibly be identified as Saint Lawrence, traditionally depicted as a young deacon, but due to the absence of the original attributes, a definite identification is not possible.
Height 21 cm; carved wood with old polychromy and gilding, unsigned, in authentic condition with clear signs of age and wear, local losses to the polychromy and gilding, the left hand and the attribute in the right hand are missing and also the aureole originally attached in the hole above the head is no longer present.
