Wooden table clock from Germany, in a Historicist / Neo-Baroque style, estimated period 1910–1920.
Description from the seller
German Historiated/Neo-Baroque Table Clock – Joh. Hartmann, Berlin – circa 1880-1900
Elegant and richly decorated German table clock dating from the late 19th century.
The enameled dial bears the inscription “Joh. Hartmann – K.K. Hofuhrmacher – BERLIN – 48/49 U. d. Linden,” referring to the clockmaker and his Berlin address Unter den Linden.
Wood case in a beautiful mahogany tone, extensively adorned with patinated metal decorative elements. The façade features a remarkable historicist, neo-baroque and rocaille-inspired decoration: a crowned female figure in the upper part, scrolls, foliage and a small putto in the lower part.
Light dial with stylized Arabic numerals and elaborately shaped hands. Two winding apertures indicate a mechanical movement with striking mechanism.
The back features a door providing access to the movement as well as a perforated metal grille.
Period: circa 1880-1900
Origin: Germany, Berlin
Style: historicist / neo-baroque
Materials: wood, patinated metal, enameled dial
Height: about 31-32 cm
Width: about 18 cm
Good overall condition considering its age, with patina, small scratches and signs of use on the wood dating from old times. These marks contribute to the authentic character of this old clock.
Fine decorative collectible piece, particularly interesting for its signed dial Joh. Hartmann, Berlin.
