AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Precious antique collectible fan with pierced mother-of-pearl, gilding, and a hand-painted silk page - With original box - European manufacture, late 19th century
Description of the item
Epoch and Origin: Late 19th century (Belle Époque period, ca. 1880-1900). European high-quality manufacture, reminiscent of French or Italian artisanal tradition, which during this period expressed the peak of decorative taste for prestigious accessories.
The Mounting: An expertly made piece. The ribs and guards are crafted in natural mother-of-pearl, characterized by a vivid and deep iridescence. The lower part is enriched with meticulous fretwork featuring floral and geometric motifs, further embellished by delicate hand gilding that defines the details of the friezes, creating an elegant and luminous contrast. The external guards have a dark lacquered finish that adds depth and highlights the central mother-of-pearl’s brilliance. The closing rivet is original and fitted with a gold-plated engraved ring, typical of ballroom models of the era.
The Leaf (Page): Made of silk and finely hand-painted on both sides (front and back), a hallmark of exquisite workmanship. The principal side depicts a refined neoclassical gallant scene with figures in period costumes placed in a pastoral landscape, finished along the upper edge with an elegant gold profile.
Dimensions:
Closed rib length: 24 cm
Maximum opening (spread): 42.5 cm
Closed thickness: 2.3 cm
