AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Likely South American earthenware sculpture – three figures on a mythical creature

A distinctive and heavy earthenware object, presumably of South American origin. The piece shows three stylized human figures seated in a row on the back of a fantasy or mythical being. The elongated form is decorated with incised spiral and geometric motifs.

The expressive faces, elongated bodies and animal-like styling appear to be inspired by indigenous and possibly pre-Columbian visual language. However, the precise provenance, culture and age are not documented. Therefore the object is offered as decorative or folk-art work with a presumed South American origin.

Executed in baked clay or terracotta with a dark gray to black-brown finish. The object has a substantial weight of approximately 4,712 grams.

Dimensions:

length: about 39 cm
height: about 24 cm
weight: about 4.7 kg

Condition:
In well-used condition, with signs of wear and aging. In places there is wear, small damages and loss of the dark finish. At one excellent end there is a clear crack or damage. The underside also shows wear and material- or color loss. Please examine the photos carefully; they form an important part of the description.

A characterful, substantial and enigmatic object with a strong sculptural presence.
