Medieval, Crusaders Era Medieval lead amulet knight on horse, cross
Very rare amulet from Crusader times.
Medieval (Crusader, Byzantine) lead amulet depicting a knight on a horse with another person standing. Rev: a large Cross. 800 -1100 AD. Weight: 22,15 gr
Diameter: 41,25 mm. Nice light brown patina.
An intriguing and rustic artefact from the Crusades era, this circular lead token mimics Byzantine and early medieval numismatic styles. The crude, high-relief cast design features a stylised central anthropomorphic figure or stylised cross flanked by smaller geometric symbols or rudimentary attendants. A clean, contemporary or near-contemporary holed piercing is located near the upper rim, indicating this token was modified to be worn as a protective amulet, personal pendant, or tally tag. Material: Lead Period: High Medieval Period (c. 12th–14th Century)Patina: Thick, authentic earthen-brown and grey oxidation layer across all surfaces.Condition: Fine overall for a cast lead artefact; details remain legible despite typical soft metal wear and minor edge loss. An excellent addition for collectors of medieval exonumia, Crusader antiquities, or early religious amulets.
