Description from the seller
Antique, cut crystal serving bowl on a silver or silver-plated base (often known internationally as a tazza or compote). This type of table decoration was typically used for elegant serving of fruit, cakes or bonbons.
Key features:Material: Richly cut, wavy or fluted clear glass on top, and a vertically patterned, circular silver-plated or solid silver base on the bottom.
Provenance and age: Based on the shape and workmanship, it is most likely a Dutch or European-made piece, dating from the late 19th century.
It primarily bears the marks of historicism (historicizing style), particularly the neo-baroque or neo-rococo trends. The object may have been made at the end of the 19th century or at the very beginning of the 20th century (approximately between 1880 and 1910). In this era, masters loved to return to the luxurious styles of previous centuries. The style can be recognized by the following features: Wavy design: The characteristic, shell-like, lobed (wavy) design of the edge of the crystal bowl evokes the Baroque and Rococo design. Rich grinding: The radial and geometric grinding of the glass surface is characteristic of typical luxury products of the historicist era (e.g. Dutch, French or Czech crystals). Classic base: The stepped, ring-shaped and finely notched decoration of the metal base (the so-called pearl-lined or ribbed border) combines the style elements of classicist and baroque goldsmithing.
It is in good condition for its age, stable and even usable.
We can post it carefully packaged, in an insured, registered package.
