Russian Orthodox icon of the “Feasts” type (Menaion) - Russia, 19th century
Tempera and gold leaf on a wooden panel
Rare Russian Orthodox icon of the “Feasts” type, presenting a substantial cycle of scenes from the life of Christ, the Virgin Mary, and the main liturgical feasts of the Orthodox Church.
The different compositions are accompanied by inscriptions in Church Slavonic and are rendered in a traditional palette with dominant reds, ochres, and greens.
This icon is a fine example of 19th‑century Russian production, intended for private devotion while offering a rich iconographic synthesis of the Orthodox liturgical calendar.
Condition: wear, craquelure, small losses and old restorations, in keeping with age. The piece shows a beautiful patina and good readability of the scenes.
