Rare set consisting of a fragment of a medieval brown wax seal accompanied by its green wax counter-seal, preserved with their original attachments.
The main seal shows the abbot standing under Gothic architecture, while the counter-seal bears his coat of arms. Identified as that of Étienne de Warelles, abbot of the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Ghislain in the 14th century (1317-1366).
Historical piece coming from a disappeared document, witness to medieval monastic administration in the former Low Countries.
Fragmentary condition consistent with age, with wear and gaps.
