Description from the seller
Chokwe Luena statue of a Pwo dancer -
A true masterpiece of African art, discover this Chokwe or Luena statue bearing the Pwo or Mwana of a beautiful woman. It represents the male dancer wearing the famous hairstyle of a beautiful woman, symbolizing the young woman in the prime of life who is to marry. The face is, therefore, remarkably sculpted with the cross called "chingelyengelye" as well as scarifications on the cheeks and temples.
The body of this African statue, for its part, is striped like a zebra and indeed represents the costume worn by the dancer, a costume made of braided fibers.
