Set of 2 brutalist 'Fat Lava' ashtrays – Jan van Erp Ceramics

A beautiful and rare set of two brutalist, handcrafted ceramic ashtrays from the renowned Dutch ceramist Jan van Erp. This set showcases the iconic Mid-Century brutalist style at its best.
Both objects are made from coarse chamotte clay and feature a thick, tangible 'Fat Lava' texture on the exterior.

The interior is finished with a liquid, thick glossy glaze in a fiery color combination of deep red and bright orange, subtly accented with yellow and dark nuances. The set consists of two different forms: one sleeker, rectangular model with a geometric stepped cigarette holder, and one organically shaped model with a deep well and an extra rough, volcanic exterior.

Today these ashtrays are highly sought-after collectibles that also serve excellently as decorative design pieces (vide-poches) in a modern or retro interior.
