Description from the seller
Collection of 14 antique and vintage corkscrews – John Begg, stag, figurative models and travel corkscrews.
Offered is a decorative and varied collection of 14 antique and vintage corkscrews, executed as classic T-corkscrews with direct pulling action.
The collection comprises several models and variations, including:
* corkscrews with handles likely made from deer antler;
* richly decorated handles made of bone, horn or composite material;
* pieces with wooden and metal handles;
* a nicely polished, silver-colored T-model;
* several compact and detachable travel corkscrews;
* two special figurative models with bird and wing motifs;
* various steel spirals with a beautiful natural patina of age.
The metal parts are presumably made from a combination of steel, nickel-plated metal and silvered or white metal. No silver fineness has been established to date; the items are therefore not offered as solid silver.
The collection is likely from different periods from the late 19th century to the second half of the 20th century. The exact ages and origins vary by piece and are not documented.
All corkscrews are in used collectible condition, with typical signs of age such as scratches, discoloration, oxidation and patina. The spirals appear as shown in the photos and are largely intact. Please study the photos carefully; they form an integral part of the description.
An interesting collection for wine antique enthusiasts, sommeliers, hospitality and bar accessories, and collectors of historic corkscrews.
The collection includes some striking centerpieces, including a detachable advertising corkscrew inscribed “TAKE APART – JOHN BEGG,” a figurative corkscrew in the shape of a female acrobat, a decorative piece with two swans, and several beautifully finished T-corkscrews with ribbed, carved and natural handles.
The materials used include steel, nickel-plated or silvered metal, wood, antler and presumably bone, horn or composite material. The natural materials have not been laboratory tested and are explicitly not offered as ivory.
Quantity: 14
Material: steel, metal, wood, antler and presumably bone/horn or composite material
Period: probably circa 1900–1970
Origin: Europe, exact countries unknown
Condition: used, with age patina, not cleaned or polished.
