AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Val Saint Lambert – Charles Graffart – Luxval “Noémie” – Art Deco lidded bowl – amber glass – ca. 1935

Description

A stunning and elegant Art Deco lidded bowl “Noémie,” crafted by the renowned Belgian glassworks Val Saint Lambert within the well-known Luxval collection.

This example is made in a particularly warm amber/honey-colored glass mass, a hue that beautifully accentuates the geometric Art Deco design and its relief.

The bowl has a low, wide form on a raised circular foot and is equipped with two characteristic geometric handles. The lower portion of the bowl is constructed from broad, fan-shaped segments.

What is special is the accompanying original lid, which completes the design. The lid rises gracefully to a distinctive, faceted geometric knob. Together, the bowl and lid form a very harmonious and striking Art Deco object.

The design is attributed to Charles Graffart, one of the leading designers associated with Val Saint Lambert's Luxval production.

Documented Luxval model

The model can be found in the 1935 historical Val Saint Lambert Luxval catalogue, which also includes an image of the lot.

On the illustrated catalogue page, the bowl form with two handles is clearly seen within the “Service à larges côtes plates.” This provides nice historical documentation for the object offered.
