Ibex bronze plaque from the Ordos culture, dating to c. 600–200 BC; original and in very good condition, 4.4 cm long, 22 g, with an openwork design possibly for belt or garment attachment.
Description from the seller
This artifact is an ancient Ordos culture bronze plaque modeled in the form of an ibex or wild goat. Dating from approximately the 6th to 2nd century BC, it is a classic example of nomadic art originating from Northern China and Inner Mongolia.4.4 cm. Weight 22g
Key Stylistic Features
Concentric Circles: The flanks and hindquarters are adorned with incised or cast concentric circles, which are a characteristic geometric motif of the Ordos Steppe civilization used to indicate muscle mass or coat textures.
Long Curved Horns: The prominent, ridged, sweeping horns identify the animal as an ibex, a deeply revered creature across Eurasian nomadic iconography.
Openwork Design: The negative spaces or loops below the torso emphasize the portable, lightweight nature of steppe metalwork, often functioning as a belt buckle or garment attachment. .
