Description from the seller
Adolf Loos: Architecture 1903-1932
Edited by Roberto Schezen
A celebrated photographic monograph curated by architectural photographer Roberto Schezen. Originally published in 1996, the book documents the work of the master of the Austrian Modern Movement through extraordinary images.
The volume includes leading contributions to the contemporary architectural debate: a preface or introductory essay by the renowned architectural theorist and historian Kenneth Frampton and the detailed descriptions of the individual projects entrusted to architectural historian Joseph Rosa.
Main features of the work
Visual focus: The core of the book consists of over a hundred photographs by Roberto Schezen, in color and black and white, capable of capturing the complex spatial articulation (Raumplan) typical of Loos’s works.
The time span (1903-1932): Covers the thirty essential years of the architect’s career, from the first historic interventions in Vienna to the last villas and projects of the early 1930s.
Iconic projects included: The volume analyzes absolute masterpieces such as Villa Müller in Prague, Villa Steiner, the famous Looshaus in Michaelerplatz in Vienna, and the iconic Viennese commercial interiors (such as the Kärntner Bar).
Scientific rigor: The critical descriptions of the individual buildings offer a clear picture of Loos’s "astilistic" philosophy, centered on eliminating superficial decoration in favor of the richness of noble materials (marbles, precious woods) and the functionality of spaces.
The volume is in excellent condition. Cover well preserved. Paperback solidly bound. Interior pages clean without creases or stains. An excellent collectible copy.
COMBINED SHIPPING available for multiple purchases.
