Description from the seller

A evocative set of 10 silvered metal knife rests, shaped in the form of the dragon of oriental tradition, a symbolic figure of great importance in Chinese iconography.

Each piece features a strongly sculptural and decorative structure: the dragon's body unfolds in a sinuous, elongated form, with the head raised and the jaws open, while the surface is enriched with raised-relief details suggesting scales, the mane, and ornamental elements of the mythical creature. The body ends in an elaborate, curved composition, on which is carved the plane destined to receive the knife blade.

Particularly dramatic are the spiral motifs and undulating shapes that accompany the body, giving the objects a strong sense of dynamism.

The relief work creates plays of light on the metallic surface and highlights the richness of the modeling.

The choice of the Chinese dragon is not purely decorative: in East Asian culture the dragon is traditionally associated with strength, power, prosperity, good fortune, and protection. Its presence on the table thus gives the service a symbolic character as well as an ornamental one.

The distinctive form makes these objects more than simple functional accessories: they are true small sculptural elements for the table, capable of attracting attention and giving the mise en place an exotic and refined imprint.

Dimensions: 9x4 cm, weight 100 g.

Good overall condition.

Seller's Story

My name is Riccardo. I recently graduated in Art History from the University of Florence and I am passionate about porcelain. From tableware to artistic vases, from figurines to tea and coffee sets, I am fascinated by the mastery and creativity of great artisans and designers who manage to shape this fragile material, transforming a rough mass into masterpieces with a story to tell. During my years at university I began to become interested in the history of nineteenth- and twentieth-century tableware; today, every day, I deal with prestigious porcelain pieces that always have something to say to me and to those who purchase them. I love that every day I can discover more about the objects I find while traveling around Italy, always learning something new. I always try to convey to my clients this passion I have for the objects I sell, certain that each of them has a story to tell: that of the creator, that of the one who preserved it, and that of the person who will give it a new life.
