Male Ancestor - Figure - Ngbaka - Congo

Old male ancestor figure of the Ngbaka people living in the Ubangi River Region of Congo on grassy plains with tall trees with dry and wet seasons.

Now in my private Dutch collection.

The ancestor figurine Muliebre is placed in the Tora hut and offerings are made at deaths and during extended illnesses.

The figure is covered with a layor of black patina caused by age and heavy use.
Beautiful heart-shaped face. Round head. The ears are incorporated into the eye sockets: fine made. Long torso and short legs as usual.
Beads around the neck and ankles.
Scarifications on breast and belly.
