Books about the origin/history of time measurement.
Two books on time-keeping in the German language.
The development is treated from the early 13th century with water clocks and hourglasses to the early modern era of the twentieth century with atomic clocks and radio-controlled time-measuring instruments. The historical development, from gatekeeper clocks, clocks for use in houses, tower clocks and specialized accurate timepieces for a variety of scientific and societal purposes, is described.
A wide range of clock types is discussed at length, as well as the origins both regionally and nationally. Technical forgeries, materials, restorations, and the names of clockmakers, etc., pass under review.
